FAQ'S:
WHAT IS OUR ELEVATION?
We are at approximately 1000 feet . Consequently it rarely snows and if it does it is very temporary.
ARE WE ON THE RIVER?
The property is not on the river. The closet public access sites are Lake Kaweah (the mouth of the river can be accessed) and just inside the entrance to Sequoia National Park.
WHAT ABOUT LOCAL WATER FOR DRINKING?
Our water comes from a well in a granite aquifer, it is completely potable and does not have to be filtered. It is not necessary to bring bottled water.
WHAT ABOUT DOGS?
Since we don't allow pets we have a very nice contact in town for your pets vacation stay. It is logical anyway, since the National Parks only allows dogs on leash and poop must be scooped. Please let us know and we can put you in contact with this very trustworthy service.
OH, THE WILDLIFE, DO I WORRY?
None of the various creatures that may roam thru our property are interested in humans ... they are timid and do not confront or charge or try to enter the house.
COMMUNICATIONS?
Three Rivers is essentially a canyon - so there are various locations where cellular service is poor to non-existant and at this time is primarily ATT. However Verizon is making it's way into the area and will work at the beginning of Three Rivers and can be spotty, but not reliable past the first couple of miles and not functional at the cottage.
ARE THERE LOWER ELEVATION HIKING TRAILS?
There are walks that can accessed on local Bureau of Land Management land that borders the National Park boundaries via Alta Acres Rd and at the end of North Fork Dr. The North Fork drive area is only recommended at certain times of the year. The South Fork entrance of Sequoia National Park is doable as a day hike, as it is only 8 miles from Hi-way 198, such as the Ladybug trail. There are other mid-elevation hikes that can be done in 1 day, just inside the National Park entrance.
